Various factors trigger asthma. An environment rife with smog, pollen, and pollution is among the major factors that can trigger asthma. The Allergy and Asthma Foundation has carried out research that indicates several U.S. cities that are considered poor living conditions for patients with asthma. Most of these cities are highly populated, with pollution and climate issues that aggravate asthma symptoms:

1. Greensboro, NC
Greensboro is a city found near the Research Triangle in North Carolina and is well known for medical technology and research. Besides being informed in healthcare, Greensboro has inferior access to asthma specialists in the country. Also, many people living in the country do not have health insurance. Since very few are health insured, very few visit doctors, and a large percentage opts for ER visits. Treating asthma is expensive, and people without health insurance might be unable to pay for healthcare and medicines leading to uncontrolled and dangerous asthma problems

2. Philadelphia, PA
Philadelphia is said to be among the poorest cities in the U.S. Poverty is related to asthma in those places with poor people rarely have healthcare facilities. Besides being exposed to health risks and earning low income, Philadelphia also has air particle pollution and high ozone levels.
When all these factors combine, they lead to a vast number of ER fatalities and visits related to asthma. In the U.S., asthma is among the top 20 reasons for ER visits, which translates to 1.7 million ER visits in a year

3. Springfield, MA
Springfield is found in a valley where carbon dioxide levels collect and cause air pollution. Also, Springfield has a high count of pollen, which might affect people living with asthma. Of the total number of adults in the city, half of them have allergic asthma, and around 60-80% of the kids in the town also have asthma. Occasionally, the city experiences high humidity levels, which accumulate in the valley, leaving the particulates on the earth. This leads to low air quality, making Springfield one of the worst cities to live for asthma people. In addition to air pollution and pollen count, Springfield is also the too country in the U.S. that records the highest number of ER visits

4. Dayton, OH
Dayton is the third top country in the U.S. that uses asthma medicines for long term control and quick relief. Dayton is part of Ohio’s ‘asthma-belt’ formed since it is prevalent there, and there is poor severe asthma treatment. In addition to ranking third, Dayton also has the highest ER visits in the whole of the U.S. The city’s poverty rate is too high, with around 1 out of every three residents being poor. This poverty rate is among the many factors that make Dayton the wrong city to live for asthma people

5. Cleveland, OH
Cleveland, OH, is also said to be among the worst cities for people living with asthma. The town has a good percentage of people who use rescue drugs, eosinophilic treatment medication, or medicines to relieve asthma. Such drugs are taken by asthmatic people when they have an attack. The drugs help4 by opening and relaxing the air passages and airways.

Cleveland is not a fair city for people who have asthma because it is densely populated hence has poor air circulation and quality. The city’s poverty rate is more than 10%, which contributes to frequent visits to the ER.
